Bournemouth Dolphins
dolphins-logoThe swim club is the Academy’s longest client. Since working with the swimming club we have provided land training three times a week for the performance squad. We have also worked one to one with young athletes who are identified as having talent, but not yet chosen for the world class program pathway.  When we first started work with the club, none of the swimmers stretched properly and many had no idea on foods they should eat. The training demands of swimmers are huge.  At 13 & 14 years old they train 9 pool sessions which amounts to 55k per week, as well as school and sometimes other sports.

One of the first areas to tackle was nutrition and education to the children and parents about food choices and how much to eat. At first this proved difficult as it is complete re-education and this is an area we are continuing to work in. The biggest improvement so far is the young athletes flexibility and this is solely through training with our Academy. Once a week we offer a stretch session where we educate the children how to stretch properly and teach them how to take care of their muscles. We explain the anatomy of their body (in simple terms) and why stretching will improve their performance.

Because of this education we are now seeing an improvement in body functionality, less injury and most importantly better competition results. This is the greatest achievement as it proves our Academy works and the young athletes recognise this too.  Many now know where the muscles are in their body and understand which are the main ones used during swimming.  Education is so important to these young athletes and through learning we are giving them a better opportunity in life.
